Faith on Fire
“...zealous for good deeds” (Titus 2:15)

Watchman Nee wrote a book entitled “The Normal Christian Life.” Reading the book, we discover that “normal” is not what we see in the “average” Christian today. In the first chapter, Nee begins like this:

“What is the normal Christian life? We do well at the outset
to ponder this question. The object of these studies is to
show that it is something very different from the life of
the average Christian….”

It seems that the average Christian today has sleepy, Sunday faith. More than 90% of the Christians in America have never once shared their faith! And, for many, no one has ever asked them about their faith…because there is nothing evident! Their family, friends and work associates do not really see any evidence of personal faith! Their faith is so cold!

God saved us for many reasons. The normal life of a child of God is that we will be on fire for Him. With passion burning in our hearts, with faith that is set aflame, God wants to work in and through our lives with zeal!

ZEAL?
The word that is translated “zealous” in the NASB and KJV; “eager” in the NIV can be traced back to a Greek root word (zeô) that means “to boil, be hot, being fervent.” God expects His children to have faith that is on fire.

How would you describe your walk with God? Has there ever been a time when you were “on fire” more than you are today? Has your heart grown cold and the fire gone dim?

For the rest of this week we will review the text from last Sunday and look at the keys to keeping our Faith on Fire.

For today, let’s pray the words of the old hymn:

Set my soul afire, Lord
Set my soul afire
Make my life a witness
Of Your saving power
Millions grope in darkness
Waiting for Your Word,
Set my soul afire, Lord
Set my soul afire!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
